    UK rejects criticism that move to recognise Palestinian state rewards Hamas

    LONDON (Reuters) -Britain on Wednesday rejected criticism that it was rewarding militant group Hamas by setting out plans to recognise a Palestinian state except Israel took steps to enhance the scenario in Gaza and convey about peace.

    The sight of emaciated Gaza youngsters has shocked the world in current days and on Tuesday, a starvation monitor warned {that a} worst-case situation of famine was unfolding there and instant motion was wanted to keep away from widespread dying.

    Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s ultimatum, setting a September deadline for Israel, prompted an instantaneous rebuke from his counterpart in Jerusalem, who stated it rewarded Hamas and punished the victims of their 2023 cross-border assault.

    U.S. President Donald Trump stated he didn’t suppose Hamas “ought to be rewarded” with recognition of Palestinian independence.

    Requested about that criticism, British Transport Minister Heidi Alexander – designated by the federal government to reply to questions in a collection of media interviews on Wednesday – stated it was not the appropriate solution to characterise Britain’s plan.

    “This isn’t a reward for Hamas. Hamas is a vile terrorist organisation that has dedicated appalling atrocities. That is concerning the Palestinian folks. It is about these youngsters that we see in Gaza who’re ravenous to dying,” she instructed LBC radio.

    “We have to ratchet up stress on the Israeli authorities to elevate the restrictions to get support again into Gaza.”

    France introduced final week it could recognise Palestinian statehood in September.

    Successive British governments have stated they’d recognise a Palestinian state when it was only to take action.

    In a televised handle on Tuesday, Starmer stated that second had now come, highlighting the struggling in Gaza and saying the prospect of a two-state resolution – a Palestinian state co-existing in peace alongside Israel – was beneath risk.

    Starmer stated Britain would make the transfer on the U.N.
