OTTAWA, Dec 5 (Reuters) – The Canadian authorities stated on Friday that it has eliminated Syria from its checklist of international state supporters of terrorism and eliminated Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the group that spearheaded the insurgent alliance that helped oust President Bashar al-Assad, from its checklist of terrorist entities.
“These measures are consistent with latest selections taken by our allies, together with the UK and the USA, and follows the efforts by the Syrian transitional authorities to advance Syria’s stability, construct an inclusive and safe future for its residents, and work alongside international companions to bolster regional stability and counter terrorism,” the Canadian authorities stated in a press release.
