    Saudi Arabia identifies key dust storm hotspots

    RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Regional Middle for Sand and Mud Storms has recognized six major zones as the principle sources of mud formation within the Kingdom, as a part of its broader efforts to mitigate the influence of accelerating sandstorms.

    The recognized areas embody: the Al-Jafurah area, Nafud Al-Thuwairat, the Hasma Plateau, the western fringes of the Empty Quarter (Rub’ al Khali), the southwestern fringe of the Tuwaiq Escarpment, and the southern Crimson Sea shoreline.

    In response, Saudi Arabia is advancing environmental insurance policies aligned with the Saudi Inexperienced Initiative and the Center East Inexperienced Initiative.

    As a part of its worldwide environmental commitments, the Kingdom launched a five-year international initiative value $10 million to strengthen early warning methods for sand and dirt storms. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s local weather adaptation framework and goals to bolster regional resilience.

    Mud storms pose a major risk not solely to infrastructure — damaging energy traces, telecom networks, and industrial equipment — but in addition to sustainable improvement targets.

    The United Nations has categorized sandstorms as a serious impediment to financial, environmental, and social stability.

    To deal with root causes, Saudi Arabia is urgent forward with its formidable aim to plant 10 billion timber nationwide, a reforestation drive masking roughly 74 million hectares. The technique goals to revive ecological features, scale back desertification, and enhance air high quality throughout the Kingdom.
