    Turkey battles wildfire in northwest for second day after evacuations

    CANAKKALE, Turkey (Reuters) -Firefighters battled a number of wildfires throughout Turkey on Tuesday, with a big blaze within the northwestern province of Canakkale burning for a second day after lots of of residents have been evacuated in precaution.

    Each Canakkale airport and the Dardanelles Strait, which connects the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara, have been briefly shut because of the wildfires on Monday.

    Wildfires in Canakkale’s Ezine and Ayvacik districts have been largely introduced underneath management, however blazes within the metropolis centre within the southern a part of the Dardanelles Strait have been nonetheless burning, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli stated in a publish on X.

    Seven planes and 6 helicopters have been tackling the blaze on Tuesday, Canakkale Governor Omer Toraman stated in a publish on X, including that there was no rapid hazard to residential areas.
