Dubai Municipality has awarded the contract for the primary section of the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Improvement Challenge, with a price of AED100m ($27.2m).
The total two-phase challenge will value AED650m ($177m) and is designed to place the sanctuary as a world mannequin for sustainable city eco-tourism.
The event is in keeping with the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to develop the emirate’s pure reserves in alignment with the 2040 City Grasp Plan.
Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary in Dubai Section One
Masking 6.4sq km, section one of many challenge focuses on rehabilitating pure ecosystems, with a significant emphasis on biodiversity and local weather resilience:
- 60 per cent enhance in mangrove protection (from 40 to 65 hectares)
- 144 per cent enhance in water our bodies (to 74 hectares), supporting 60 per cent extra CO₂ absorption
- Creation of latest habitats together with Mangrove Lake, North Edge Lake, and reed ponds
- Addition of 10 hectares of salt flats (mudflats)
- Improvement of a Inexperienced Backbone and steady ecological monitoring
The sanctuary, which already attracts round 20,000 migratory birds every year, together with flamingos, is predicted to multiply annual guests six-fold to 250,000–300,000 as soon as full.
Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary in Dubai Section Two
Section two will give attention to infrastructure and customer expertise enhancements throughout 20,000 sq. metres, together with:
- A customer centre, birdwatching towers, eating places, kiosks, and academic centres
- 5.6km of biking tracks and 3km of strolling trails
- 23 hectares of latest landscaping
- Devoted areas for occasions and environmental consciousness initiatives
Designed by internationally recognised consultants in collaboration with the Dubai Atmosphere and Local weather Change Authority, the challenge has already gained seven worldwide and regional awards, cementing Dubai Municipality’s management in sustainable growth and environmental design.

The Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary was the primary UAE website listed underneath the Ramsar Conference in 2007 and is classed underneath the Worldwide Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) tips.
It hosts almost 450 species of wildlife and performs a significant function within the area’s ecological steadiness.
